AWKA: POLICE ARREST ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS, RECOVER ARMS

Police Patrol Team attached to Department of Operations, Police Headquarters, Awka, Thursday, November 1, arrested and handed over to FSARS, a 21-year-old Atakpa Ikechuckwu from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State with his accomplice, John Osita, 21, from Amansi in Awka North LGA of Anambra State.

The arrest of the suspects followed intelligence report from well meaning citizens, who reported activities of the duo to the police.

Report from the police headquarters is that the suspects had on the Tuesday, October 30, at about 2:00am, broke into the residences of one Prof. Eric Ofoedu of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and Nweke Friday and robbed them of Toyota Camry Car,2001 Model; three laptops, International Passport, unspecified sum of money and other valuables.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects, according to police source include, one Toyota Camry Model 2001 stolen from Prof. Ofoedu;
one fabricated pistol, twenty five cartridges, five laptops, two machetes, international passport belonging to the Prof, handsets and other accessories; adding that the suspects confessed to the crime and are assisting the police with useful information that could aid investigation after which they would be charged to court for prosecution.
