NAMES OF PERSONS ARRESTED IN NNEWI OVER IPOB MAYHEM
The Anambra State Police Command has released names of 33 persons arrested in Nnewi on Saturday November 23, over the disturbances of members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, at the area, where the pro Biafra group killed a police inspector and inflicted injuries on a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and some other police personnel; and went further to set one patrol vehicle on fire.
The PRO, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Jimoh Moshood, who paraded the suspects in Awka, said that killing of the police inspector and setting ablaze of police vehicle constitute a crime under the anti-terrorism
Prevention Amendment Act, 2013.
He said that upon completion of the investigation, the suspects will be charged to court under Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act, 2013, and other capital offences such as murder, attempted murder, rioting, malicious damage of government property and police vehicle including looting and stealing.
Items allegedly recovered from the suspects include 8 motorcycles, 5 IPOB flags and 5 IPOB caps.
The suspects were also accused of snatching and carting away of 2 AK47 rifles and one Beretta pistol with ammunition.
