MARIST BROTHERS SEC. SCH. Wins FRSC 2018 QUIZ COMPETITION

Marist Brothers Secondary School, Nteje, Oyi LGA of Anambra State, has emerged winner of the Federal Road Safety Corps 2018 Secondary School quiz competition in the Anambra State.

The grand finale held at the Corps State Headquarters, Awka, feature fifteen schools that emerged from the preliminary rounds conducted by the Commands of the Corps at the various Local Government Area levels.

Community Secondary School, Oko, and Comprehensive Secondary School, Nawfia, took the second and third positions respectively.

The State Sector Commander of the Corps, Mr Sunday Ajayi, said Marist Brothers Secondary School would now represent the state at the zonal level next year in a competition to be hosted by Anambra State which will involve Anambra, Delta and Edo States.

Mr Ajayi explained that the quiz competition was part of initiatives of the corps to effectively engage the stakeholders in its activities and was designed to promote road safety education in schools by engaging students in road safety matters to inculcate spirit and idea of road safety early in their lives.

He added that it will also help to grow a new generation of people, who believe and appreciate the importance of road safety on the highway.

In her reaction, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, represented by Education Officer in the Ministry, Mr Samuel Obi, said the programme was in line with the success story of the Anambra State Education Sector under the administration of Governor Obiano; and expressed confidence that the state representatives would excel in the zonal and national competitions.

In their separate reactions, the Chairman of the Post Primary School Service Commission, Lady Joy Ulasi, represented by the Director and State Coordinator, Guidance and Counseling Services, Mrs Eucharia Ilika; as well as Chairman of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, Chief Nzemeka Olisa, represented by the Director of Academic Services, Lady Edith Erike; said it is important to instill safety knowledge in children early in life so that they would help to propagate the ideas and contribute towards reducing road crashes.
