MARCH 9 POLLS: ANAMBRA POLICE COMMAND STRATEGIZE TO CHECKMATE VIOLENCE, THURGERY

In order to have a hitch free House of Assembly elections on Saturday, March 9, the Anambra State Police Command under CP Rabiu Ladodo, has reviewed its operations and mapped out strategies in order to address major election threats in the state such as thuggery and cultism through robust inter-agency cooperation, visibility patrol, intelligence gathering and constant raids of criminal hideouts in order to nip in the bud all forms of threats to the upcoming elections.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Haruna Mohammed, who disclosed this in a release issued on Wednesday, March 6, added that the four thousand, six hundred and eight (4, 608) polling units across the state are effectively covered by the Command and other sister security agencies.

“Joint operations room is also created and distress call numbers were equally disseminated to members of the public in case of emergency.

“Adequate deployments are made at INEC, registration centres and CBN to secure election materials, facilities and INEC staff”, he added.

The Command insisted that it will also enforce to the latter, the Inspector-General of Police’s directives on banning of unauthorized use of unmarked/covered vehicle number plates. This, he said, is because, apart from constituting serious threat to the upcoming governorship and House of Assembly elections, covering of plate numbers also amount to a clear breach of the Road Traffic Act and other relevant laws of the land.

The Command also assured that Anambra State will continue to remain the safest state through the relentless cooperation and supports of the citizenry.

It warned residents of the state, especially mischief makers, ballot box snatchers and their sponsors, political thugs, etc; to have a rethink and desist from their criminal intention forthwith, as the Command is prepared for them.

“Anyone apprehended would be dealt with in accordance with the law, no matter how highly placed they are”, he added.

The Command finally craved the indulgence of the good people of Anambra State to come out enmasse to exercise their franchise on Saturday, without any hindrance as the law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to ensure their safety and security before, during and after the election.
