Fatal Accident At Ogidi, Idemili North LGA Of Anambra State

A 54-year-old man, identified as Chidi Ezechi Uruala of Ideato local government area, Imo State, on Sunday lost his life in a fatal accident involving a commuter bus and an SUV.

Seventeen other passengers also conveyed by the bus and its driver, whose name was given as Asomgha Chiemezie, all escaped death, but sustained varying degrees of injury.

ANAEDOONLINE gathered that the accident which happened at Ogidi, Idemili North local government area of Anambra State involved 18 passengers of a Delica bus and a Pathfinder SUV drove by one Paul Okey at about 9:45 pm.

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent said, “On the 18/05/2019 at about 9:45 pm, along Ugwunasike /Abatete Road by Oye ogidi Primary School, there was a fatal motor accident Involving a Delica Bus with Registration number ACA 105 ZL conveying 18 passengers.

“The bus was driven by one Ethelbert Asomgha Chiemezie ‘m’ of Uruala Ideato in Imo State and a Nissan Pathfinder Jeep Reg No BM 513 EPE driven by one Paul Okey m’. As a result of the accident, 15 passengers in the bus sustained various degrees of injuries.”

He stated that the police personnel attached to Ogidi Division visited the scene and rushed victims to Inyienu hospital Ogidi for medical attention.

The PPRO added, “Meanwhile, on the 19/5/2019 at about 2 pm, one of the casualties namely Chidi Ezechi ‘m’ of Uruala Ideato about 54 years old was confirmed dead by the medical Doctor while receiving treatment at the hospital. Corpse deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.”

Haruna said the driver of the SUV driver, who escaped from the scene of the accident, was subsequently arrested at about 3 pm on Sunday, while the injured casualties have been moved to their hometowns in Imo State for further medical attention.
