Nnewi  At Standstill As Igbos Observe Biafran-Day (PHOTOS)

The Sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB in remembrance of the Nigerian Civil War witnessed total compliance by residents of Nnewi, the industrial town of Anambra State.

Some Nnewi residents who interacted with anaedoonline.ng said that they will not be open for business today. Driving through major roads in Nnewi, anaedoonline.ng discovered that shops, restaurants, private schools and banks were closed while people were seen discussing in clusters.

A Nkwo Nnewi market Executive who spoke to us in anonymity insisted that the markets will be open for business.  However, from the reports reaching anaedoonline.com, many of the traders didn’t open their shops.

At Amuko Junction, we witnessed a heavy Nigerian Police presence early this morning, on further investigation, we were told by an Nnewi resident who spoke to us in anonymity that some people suspected to be members of IPOB were seen moving around in large numbers, telling people that were outside that there will be no movement today.

We also observed that even though government schools didn’t officially declare today to be a public holiday, students decided to stay at home rather than go to school.
