FST Students on protest Over NYSC mobilization

Students and graduates of food science technology department Federal Polytechnic Oko staged a protest yesterday in the school premises to register their grievances on the delay in the accreditation of the department which resulted to non-mobilization of the graduates from the department for National youth service.

Anaedoonline gathered that some departments in Federal Polytechnic Oko are due for NBTE accreditation but due to some unprecedented circumstances surrounding the management of the institution, the accreditation is yet to be done. According to an account of staff of the institution who pleaded anonymously.

Consequent upon the lack of accreditation, some graduates of the institution especially those from food technology department have not been mobilized for NYSC for some years now and that resulted in their protest.

The protesters matched round the institution and finally to the institution’s Administrative block with play cards on a peaceful demonstration agitating for urgent attention to the issue of their lack of mobilization for NYSC.

They appeal to the Rector of the institution, the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and any other body involved in resolving the ugly development, to intervene in their ordeal as a matter of urgency.

They were later addressed by the Public Relations officer of the institution, Mr Obini Onuchukwu who calmed them down and explained that efforts are been made by the management led by Engr. Nwafulugo Francisca (PhD) to address the issue of accreditation of the concerned departments.

Speaking to anaedoonline.ng, some of the protesters said they graduated since 2016 and 2017 respectively but are yet to go for NYSC. Hence, their family are beginning to doubt their graduation from school because they haven’t been seen on “Kahki” uniform.
