The Leadership Stride of NASPA Chairman, Obinna Okechukwu

Obinna Okechukwu has proven that youthfulness is an advantage to the one who knows the value. He has been able to transform himself from a businessman to an extraordinary leader and a problem solver. His attitude towards his responsibility is 100% and whatever he sets his mind to, he gets it done.

Hon. Obinna Okechukwu is an established businessman and an importer of motorcycle spare parts and accessories in Nkwo-Nnewi. He is also the present Chairman of the New Auto Spare Parts Association (NASPA) in Nkwo-Nnewi, Nnewi, Anambra State. He was appointed as the Chairman NASPA late last year by the Anambra state government when the association was rocked by internal crisis.

Prior to being the NASPA Chairman, Hon. Obinna has held many positions and still occupies many more. Obinna was only 26 years old when he took up his first leadership responsibility in the church as the Chairman of the Catholic Board Organization (CBO). He was the first Youth Chairman of St. Patrick church, Umuezeagu Community, he is a three-time Chairman of APGA ward 2, Uruagu, Nnewi, the community Chairman of Umuezeagu Community, the Chairman of all Chairman of all the ten wards of Nnewi North LGA, Vice Chairman Chapol, Anambra State commandant, Vice Chairman Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA) and other numerous positions in the state.

His leadership experience and skills has made him a force to be reckoned with among his peers.

“Being a leader to me is like doing God’s work, I use my capacity as a leader to serve people, to help people solve their problems by preaching the word of God to them”.

Obinna has proved himself a worthy leader through his various works. Last month, he was part of the committee set up to look into the Agboedo united leadership crisis, where his team were able to resolve the issue by installing a caretaker committee to chair the market.

As NASPA Chairman, Obinna and his exco have done several projects in the market to improve activities for traders. Some of these projects include, a bridge at Ogbuawa Junction,Zone 6 Zone 7 gangway, zone 4 zone 5 gang way, zone 13 & zone 14 gangway, zone 1 gangway, zone 15-zone 14 gangway, zone 16 gangway, curtain line project, Ogbuawa park, KOTEC road, Importers Park. Rehabilitation of water borehole at Ogbuawa zone 12 & 17 gangway, electricity and security in the market, and also sanitizing the market. Obinna said that being a NASPA chairman is about “bringing a family together” and ensuring that the market is conducive for traders and also clients.

Obinna Okechukwu is principled and also a God Lover, this has influenced his leadership style. According to Izuchukwu Okwudoro, “he is a good person and he does not like trouble. A Lot of people in the market love him and the works he has done so far”.

The spirit of leadership is still in progression as Obinna continues his works as a Market leader. The future is bright for the young leader.
