With the rate of hunger in the country, The Federal Government has come out to say that s food is much cheaper in the country compared to what is obtainable in other countries. This statement is coming from the Minister of Agriculture, Sabo Nanono, yesterday at the celebration of World Food Day in Abuja.

Mr. Nanono while addressing newsmen at a press briefing said the country was food sufficient and the cries of those complaining of hunger were simply laughable.

“I think we are producing enough to feed ourselves. I think there is no hunger in Nigeria; there could be inconveniences. When people talk about hunger in this government, I just laugh,” the minister said.

The minister said the decision of the Federal Government to shut all its borders was due to the excesses of neighboring countries that had made the country a dumping ground for expired rice and other goods.

“That’s the basis for the closure of the border and I think Nigeria tried to make these neighboring countries understand our predicament but to no avail.

“So long as these countries bordering us will not respect Nigerian stand on food importation, the borders will remain closed,” the minister added.
