– calls on different Igbo social-cultural groups to unite

All socio-cultural groups in South-east have been challenged to unite and form a strong front for the advancement of the welfare of the Igbo nation.

Governor David Umahi gave the challenge while addressing a group known as the Igbo Leaders of thought who paid a courtesy call on him yesterday at the Government House, Abakaliki,

According to him, interacting with one another rules out room for unhealthy competition among the group, adding that since the organization is apolitical and selfless it should have one objective, which should be for the growth of the Igbo Nation.

He urged the group to provide a road map to ascertain the needs of the people and to intervene in settling matters that affects the South East, noting that unity and oneness brings peace and progress .

Umahi however commended the group for the manner in which their address was composed, noting that it was very decent, progressive and developmental in nature.

In his words: “I don’t feel that the invitation is undermining Ohaneze, I feel that what they cannot see immediately is what you will see, what you can’t see the acting Ikenga can see or the Umunna can see.

” But the most important thing is to have a single objective to help our people”

” I thank you very much, your address is very decent, very progressive and developmental in nature.”

” You are not here to fight anybody or to fight any cultural organization”

” You have paid very deep respect for Ohaneze in this address.”

” I believe that this level of intelligence should provide a different road map in terms of providing what should be the need of our people in the southeast , in terms of talking to our very wealthy brothers and sisters whose 99.9 wealth is outside Igbo land.”

” Rich men are those that fight highest, and our people are the ones that quarrel the most, so this cultural group will now intervene because nothing is greater than peace”

” Even in our homes we have differences with our wives, how do we expect not to have differences with our brothers but it is by wisdom that we will progress”

” In every of our hate speech, We must note that we have 12 million Igbo’s outside our land, this hate speech is like igniting another coup.”

“So we must be patient, what we don’t get can’t be gotten from fight or castigation.”

Earlier in his address,the Chairman of Igbo Leaders of Thought, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, ably represented by the Deputy Chairman and former Vice-Chancellor of Anambra State University, Prof. Chinweite Ejike, stated that the main aim of the group is to provide intellectual perspective to Igbo nations participation and competitions with other nation groups in project Nigeria.

He noted that the group came into existence in the fourth quarter of 2013, with the objective of actively contributing to the dimensional fight, to add value to the collective effort to uplift the Igbo nation.

Prof. Ejike, however, disagrees in all entirety the speculations that the Igbo leadership has no competent and conducive leadership, noting that the group has excellently done and has made an undisputed effort in molding the Nation. He added that the Igbo’s will not accept the last position in the queue in the affairs of the federal republic of Nigeria.

” In order to correct the unsatisfactory state of affair, the agitation must be multi-faceted one.”

He further commended the Ohaneze Ndi Igbo which according to him is the apex of every other social-cultural group in the Igbo nation that has served the thought of Igbo land for over four decades with a degree of competency.

Finally, he also commended the developmental strides of the governor and pledge for their total support in his administration. ENDS.
