A trigger happy policeman in Imo state has shot and killed an 18-year-old boy, Awuzie Duru who retaliated after he was slapped by the said policeman.
This incident, which happened inside a bank premises at Njaba local government area of Imo state has set the community into disarray after sitting the policeman shooting the boy for retaliating a slap from the policeman, whose identity could not be ascertained.
Awuzie had gone to the bank ATM to withdraw money where he met a queue and joined in. However, before it got to his turn, his phone rang and he stepped out of the line to answer the call. When he came back someone else had taken his position on the queue and tried to stop him from staying in front of him.
“This caused a quarrel which resulted into a fight. All of this was happening under the watch of the policeman on duty.
When the scuffle began to get out of hand, the police man stepped in, scolding Awuzie for fighting in the bank premises.

“The boy then said to the police officer:, ‘you were here watching while we were exchanging words. Why scolding me now it has led to fighting?’ The policeman slapped him and the boy retaliated. In the process, the policeman cocked his gun and shot the boy, who died instantly”
This caused a great uproar in the community with angry youths planning to attack the police station in the community but the quick intervention of community leaders led to further aversion of calamity.
The matter is now in the Imo state Police head quarters and state police commissioner, Rabiu Ladodo has said the command was doing everything possible to contain any further crisis that might arise from the incident.
