House of Representatives members on Wednesday, January 29, have called on the service chiefs to resign their positions.

Anaedoonline.com gathered that the lawmakers reached resolutions after the house had a debate on the nation’s security during Wednesday’s plenary in Abuja.

A lawmaker, Abubakar Fulata (APC), represents Birniwa/Guri/Kiri-Kasamma Federal Constituency, Jigawa State, had informed his colleagues in the chamber that the service chiefs had outlived their usefulness.

According to him, it will be to the detriment of the country if these men keep doing the same thing repeatedly and expect a different result in tackling the security challenges Nigeria is grappling with.

Presiding over the plenary, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila put the question, as moved by Futala, to the lawmakers whether the service chiefs should resign and leave their offices.

Although there was a divide among the members in their response, a majority of the lawmakers answered in the affirmative and the resolution was passed.

Meanwhile, Anedoonline had reported that the Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, on Wednesday, January 29, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign, saying that Mr. Buhari has failed Nigerians

He said this in his contribution to the motion sponsored by the Senate leader, Yahaya Abdullahi over rising insecurity in the country, he said, President Buhari has been lying to Nigerians that Boko Haram has been defeated.

Abaribe, who was the first to contribute to the motion, faulted the president for failing to tackle the security challenges in the country.

The senator wondered why the president will claim to be surprised at the rising insecurity in the country.

He also called out the presidential media aide, for referring to the Christian Association of Nigeria as a political party for condemning killings by Boko Haram.

He explained that the APC government has been surviving on propaganda while Nigerians who elected them into power have been suffocating and under siege.

“Those who live on propaganda shall die by propaganda.

“Defeat is staring us on the face.

“Nigerians did not elect the Chief of Staff, Nigerians did not elect heads of Security, Nigerians elected President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 and in 2019.

“As it is, we are facing the head of the Nigerian government and this is President Buhari. He should resign with immediate effect. ”

“…If you want to treat an issue, you go to the head. We did not appoint the IG or the security chiefs. We will go to the president and ask him to resign,” the lawmaker said.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, interrupted the lawmaker and asked him to focus on how to tackle insecurity.

“Nigerians voted APC because they promised to tackle insecurity but they have failed…,” Mr. Abaribe, a member of the opposition PDP, continued.
