VON DG Says COVID-19 Delaying Anchor Borrowers Programme In Nigeria

The Director General, Voice of Nigeria, Mr. Osita Okechukwu has blamed the delay in commencement of the Anchor Borrowers Programme, ABP on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Okechukwu made this known while addressing farmers who visited his home town in Eke to question the non arrival of farm inputs, seedlings and tractors from federal government.

According to him, the ABP remains a key component of President Muhammadu Buhari’s agrarian revolution and the president is committed to making lives better for farmers in the country.

He assured the farmers that the President together with the governors were doing their best to contain the deadly COVID-19 pandemic even as he appealed to them to be patient.

Okechukwu reiterated that the Programme which was launched by President Buhari on November 17, 2015, had no direct interest rate attached to small holders’ farmers.

He explained that the Buhari wants the program to permeate all the nooks and crannies of the country.

On when the programme will commence, he said “There is no specific date for now. The battle at hand was to save lives from the ravaging pandemic”

He however noted that the Central Bank team has collated the register of farmers and had nominated banks, waiting for the pandemic cloud to clear.

Anaedoonline.com reported that Director-General, Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr. Osita Okechukwu dismissed the misconception of Nigeria as a divided country, saying inter-ethnic relationships in Nigeria had remained stronger than perceived in public.

Okechukwu stated this at a thanksgiving church service for his late lovely wife, Mrs. Tina Okechukwu, at Eke, Udi local government area of Enugu State.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain said from September 20 when his wife passed on, the heart rendering condolences he received from the length and breadth of Nigeria was clear evidence that the country remained more united than perceived.

He said that condolence messages kept pouring in and the solidarity cut across ethnic, geopolitical, regional and even party lines.

Okechukwu said the experienced had further reinforced his unwavering belief in Nigeria, as one indivisible, strong and united great country, as envisaged by her founding fathers, such as the great Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Ahmadu Bello, and Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
