The Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning has said that contrary to a report, the federal government did not lose N12.6 trillion during the minor fire outbreak at the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) branch in Jos.

Anaedoonline.com had on April 21 reported a fire outbreak at the CBN branch in Jos. Authorities said that the fire was minor, adding the fire was effectively put out and no damage was done to any records of the bank.

Following the incident on April 22, the minister was quoted by a local news medium to have said, “We lost N12.6 trillion over a fire outbreak in the CBN office in Jos.”

However, the ministry disclaimed the report in a tweet on Thursday adding that the news was false.
