Ghana President Tenders Apology For Commission Demolition, Orders Investigation

President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana Tuesday spoke with President Muhammadu Buhari, expressing his sincere apology for the demolition of a building on the premises of Nigerian High Commission in Accra, Ghana.

In a telephone call, the Ghanaian leader told President Buhari that he has directed a full investigation into the incident.

Earlier in the day, it further emerged that some suspects had been arrested, and will be arraigned in court.

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama had condemned the demolition of a section of the staff quarters of the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana.

Onyeama reacted to the incident via his Twitter handle on Sunday and urged the Ghanaian government to take immediate action and find the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, A local chief of Osu traditional area, Nii Okwei Dowuona VI, has revealed why the Nigerian High Commission was demolished by some hoodlums.

Speaking yesterday evening, the paramount ruler accused the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana of aiding a businessman to forcibly take over the plot of land belonging to his people. He claimed the parcel of land and the entire Osu Mantse layout belongs to the Osu Stool, a council of local chiefs and not state-owned.
