Some policemen near a police station in the Ikolaba area of Ibadan, Oyo state capital were attacked by unknown gunmen on Friday, August 21, leaving one corporal dead.
The surprise attack which left some of the policemen in various state of injuries and one corporal shot dead, is one its motive is still very much unclear.

According to the police spokesperson, Gbenga Fadyei, even though the gunmen’s mission is not yet clear at the moment, Policemen had been deployed to the area and normalcy has returned.
The statement read;
At about 9 pm on 21/08/2020, two Policemen who were attached to the Ikolaba Police station who was at the other side of the road of the station were attacked by hoodlums in a moving vehicle. In the process, one Police corporal was shot dead while one inspector was injured and he is recuperating in the hospital while the hoodlums ran away.
The Police station was not attacked. Immediately, the Commissioner of Police got wind of the incident, he gave the marching order to all Police Tactical teams including SARS, SRS, SKYNET, FEDERAL AND SAFER HIGHWAY PATROL TEAMS, PUFF ADDER TEAM ETC to be on the trail of the hoodlums.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations also went there immediately for on the spot assessment of the incident and all Police teams were put on red alert. Efforts intensified to arrest the hoodlums, pls.
