Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state has finally reacted to the ongoing online protests against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigerian Police force. Recall that Nigerians have been protesting online since yesterday about the seeming unending harassment, extortions, and extrajudicial killing by operatives of SARS, and how the police unit have killed more Nigerian youths than armed robbers.

 

A 26 year-old woman, Hauwa Habibu has been arrested by the the police command in Kano State for using a cutlass to hack her two children to death. The incident happened at Diso Quarters in Gwale Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, the police said. DSP Abdullahi Haruna, spokesman for the command said the police received information on Saturday that the suspect allegedly hacked her two children to death.

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, on Saturday said party members who are qualified either young, old, governors or non-governors, for interest in the 2023 presidential race will be open to everyone. He said the 2023 presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be open to all party members.

 

Amidst the nationwide outcry against operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), the Special Assistant to President Muhammdu Buhari on social media, Laureta Onochie has defended the dreaded police unit. On social media, Nigerians are speaking against the unit following recent shooting of an unarmed civilian in Delta State.

Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police (IGP), has banned operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), the Special Tactical Squad (STS) and Intelligence Response Team (IRT) from undertaking routine patrols as well as stop and search duties. Frank Mba, police spokesman, disclosed the directive of the IGP in a statement on Sunday.

There is heavy shooting now along Oba Adeshida road in Akure, Ondo State capital as clash between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and the All Progressives Congress(APC) escalated. The Sunday morning clash was said to have been a reprisal attack over the killing of an APC member in Oba Nla area of Akure on Saturday night.
