Buba Galadima, an associate of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and member of the Board of Trustees of the All Progressives Congress, has urged the President to order “his people” to unfreeze the bank accounts of #EndSARS campaigners who were clamped down in the aftermath of the nationwide demonstrations against police brutality.

 

The leadership of the House of Representatives, on Monday, met with the heads of security agencies in the country behind closed doors over the recent nationwide protests against police brutality and human rights abuses, tagged #EndSARS. The meeting, which began at about 2:15 pm, is presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase. Journalists and others were sent out of the venue as the meeting was about to begin.

The Vice-Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has decried the rate of poverty in Nigeria. In a statement issued on Monday, Obi “warned that no nation can develop and prosper with a rising large poor population as in Nigeria.” For Obi, the “poverty rate in Nigeria should worry every concerned leader because there couldn’t be national growth under this situation,” adding that “no country can develop and prosper with a rising large poor population as in Nigeria.”

 

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kola Ologbondiyan, has said the PDP has not started discussions on the zoning of candidates in the 2023 presidential election. The PDP spokesman was reacting to reports of the planned defection of the Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi. It had earlier been reported that Umahi told the PDP National Working Committee at a meeting in Abuja last week of his decision to leave the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress.

 

The Imo state government, led by Gov Hope Uzodinma, has commenced pulling down of Somto Hospital which was built by Rochas Okorocha’s administration with the state’s money. The act has caused chaos and mixed feelings amongst Imo state indegines both physically and on social media.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) on Monday released the 2020 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) results and fixed the national cut off marks at 142. According to NECO; “16,713 candidates were absent due to the #EndSARS protests that rocked the country recently.” It said a total of 70,580 candidates sat for the examination nationwide, out of which 24,416 candidates passed, scoring a minimum of 66.

 

Popular Nigerian comedian and video producer, Mark Angel, says the move by the Federal Government to regulate the social media will lead to job loss. According to the producer best known for the Mark Angel Comedy Series on various social media platforms, a lot of Nigerian youths earn their living by creating content on social media.

A former presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has claimed that the PDP is the best friend Nigeria could have. Abubakar who was a former Vice President to former President Olusegun Obasanjo made the disclosure via his official Twitter handle on Monday.
