The on-going dispute between Nigerian politician and former minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, and his ex-wife and ex-beauty queen, Precious Chikwendu has taken a new turn. Fani-Kayode and Chikwendu separated in September 2020 and have all given different causes for the divorce to the media. On Friday 6th May, 2020, Precious Chikwendu escalated tensions when she sued to have the sole custody of their four children.

Chikwendu made this plea in an affidavit before a court, claiming that she was physically assaulted multiple times when she was with Fani-Kayode, including when she was pregnant the second time. After separating, she alleges that her ex-husband has denied her access to her children, all sons. She sums her affidavit which derives protection under Section 69 of the Child Rights Act, 2003, with a demand to be paid a monthly child care allowance of 3.5 million naira.

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode’s response was immediate. Speaking through a statement made available to AnaedoOnline by the ex-minister’s media aide, Fani-Kayode accuses Precious of fabrications and outright lies. “Not one thing that she alleges there is true,” the statement read in part adding that “she is a pathological liar and a slanderer.”

In furtherance to this, Fani-Kayode reveals that Precious Chikwendu is “unfit to be a mother”, citing that she has shown cruelty to the boys and had never shown motherly affection toward them.

Secondly, Fani-Kayode states that he fears for his children’s lives should they live under the guidance of their mom. He points out that she never had time for her kids and spends most of her time on Instagram. And that, on one occasion, she beat her first child so badly his face swelled up like “a football” and he was rushed to a hospital.

There was a time she beat up one of her triplets, then aged two, for daring to cry during prayers.

Also, Fani-Kayode claims that Chikwendu is a betrayer who tried to sleep with his friends while he was in detention in 2016 in exchange for money. While she failed to seduce his friends, she was successful with other men with whom she broke her marriage vows countless, he alleges.

In defence of being accused of not letting Precious Chikwendu see her children for seven months now, Kayode says this is because she has refused to come to his house to do this. He insists that she has full visitation rights that she has refused to exercise.

In lieu of this, Precious speaks regularly to the kids over the phone and uses this opportunity to, “in many occasions”, scream at the children “in an uncontrollable rage”.

In defence of his fatherly roles to his son aged five and triplets aged three, Fani-Kayode touts his “best of care” he gives them, including having in his employment twelve nannies/nurses who take care of the kids round the clock. This decision he said goes back to the time he was still married to his wife whom he claims employed some of these caregivers.

In defence of his conduct while he was was with Precious Chikwendu, Chief Fani-Kayode points out that he never beat her nor abetted her maltreatment by his staff and security team, not while she was pregnant, not ever. “It is not true that she was subjected to any form of physical or mental abuse,” he affirms.

He states that, in the space of four years, Chikwendu had to undergo five different surgical operations all of which he paid for.

He goes on to state that he never threw the mother of his children out of his house. He claims that she walked out of her own volition, claiming she was hearing voices in the house.

“As a matter of fact, she was the abuser,” the statement opines. With this point, Fani-Kayode went on to describe occasions in which she endangered the lives of her kids and then-husband, Kayode, with “two large knives” in the presence of up to thirty people, in “a drunken craze”. She had to be restrained by a couple of policemen and women. The statement assures the general public that this is no mere accusation as there is video evidence of this.

Fani-Kayode reveals that he once caught his then-wife red-handed in bed with a married naval officer with whom she was planning to murder Chief Fani-Kayode.

Such was Precious Chikwendu’s bad behaviours that she was committed to a mental facility for a month, the statement discloses.

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode concludes that Precious Chikwendu’s accusations are an “ambush” with the intention of blackmailing him into “surrendering custody of the children to her”. He states that he is happy that his estranged wife had approached the court where Fani-Kayode intends to prove his claims with necessary documents and videos, adding that the world is about to witness “her inhumane actions and deficiencies”.
