Injured Corps Member At Ekiti Bye-election In Stable Condition – NYSC Revealed

The National Youth Service Corps has said that the corps member, Saidu Mohammed, who was hit by a stray bullet during an assignment at Saturday’s by-election in Ekiti State is in stable condition.

The Service disclosed this in a statement after the Director, South-West Area Office, Mr Emmanuel Attah, paid Saidu a visit at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti where he is receiving treatment.

According to the NYSC, “Attah, who condemned the activities of the miscreants that truncated the election, commended Saidu and other Corps Members that volunteered to serve as ad-hoc electoral officers.

“He sympathized with Corps Member Saidu and others that sustained injuries during the election, while he urged Members of the public to provide adequate security and enabling environment for Corps Members posted to their respective communities.”

Anaedoonline.ng reported that the Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has said the suspects behind the violence in Saturday’s bye-election for Ekiti East Constituency 1 of the State House Assembly have been arrested.

The Governor, who had warned that no one involved in the violence would go unpunished, revealed that the suspects will be taken to court on Monday.

Anaedoonline.ng reported that three persons were feared dead during the Ekiti East Constituency I bye-election in Ekiti East Council area of Ekiti State for a vacant House of Assembly seat on Saturday.

No fewer than five others also sustained varying degrees of gunshot injuries with about three of them said to be in critical condition at the hospitals where they are receiving treatment.

While residents said a 50 years old man identified as Bola and a 35 years old man were feared shot dead, the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, said the injured included two policemen and a corps member.

The senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, Senator Biodun Olujimi, who hails from Omuo Ekiti, said she narrowly escaped being shot as political thugs allegedly invaded her polling unit at Ward 7 Unit 007, following which she was ferried out of the place by party supporters.
