Former US president, Donald Trump has hinted at setting up his own Social Media platform. Trump disclosed this while he sat down with Fox News contributor Lisa Boothe in the first episode of her podcast titled “The Truth”. “I’m doing things having to do with putting our own platform out there that you’ll be hearing about soon,” Trump told her.
The podcast was released on Monday, 22 March 2021.
Trump didn’t give further details as to when and how he intends to run his own social networking site. While Trump won’t give us a timeline, his senior adviser Jason Miller told Fox on Saturday that this would happen “in probably about two or three months.” He added that Trump held “high-powered meetings” at his Mar-a-Lago, Florida home to discuss this startup.
Trump had been an avid user of Social Media, most especially Twitter. It was with this platform that he launched his political career, first by claiming that Obama wasn’t born in the United States therefore ineligible to be president, then using it to rally his best in a campaign that should be the polical upset of the century in the United States.

When Trump became president, he didn’t ditch Twitter nor use it sparingly, as many pundits predicted. In fact, he doubled his usage of the platform and sometimes announced important policies with his @realDonaldTrump handle. Such was his raving use of the platform that late-night hosts joked that his Presidential Library would be full of tweets.
Then the January 6th insurrection at Congress happened. Trump was largely blamed for inciting this riot that claimed lives against the government of the United States. He was impeached for this and his Social Media megaphone was taken away from him. Twitter and Snapchat banned him permanently while Youtube and Facebook banned him indefinitely – two different terms but which mean the same as long he can’t log into these platforms.
To have his say, Trump began to release statements to the media as normal politicians do. Trump praised his use of press releases as “much more elegant.” He explained further: “You’re seeing that we put out statements from the president, et cetera, et cetera. And it’s getting picked up by everybody, everything we say.” Much better than tweets, he added.
But it seems Trump still misses the spontaneity and total control that come with reaching out to his base by his own hand on Social Media.
There is actually one Social Media platform Trump could join; it is called Parler and boasts of over 20 million users. Parler is a Social Media platform for conservatives or extremists and conspiracy theorists, depending on whom you ask. Parler has been wooing Trump to join the network with talks of even giving him part ownership of the site brought to the table.
Trump hasn’t joined them and it seems he wants his own.
