A former minister of state for works during President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, has said personality and not the political party will determine who becomes the next president of Nigeria in 2023.

He said Nigerians have tested both the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress, adding that Nigerians would want to look at who has the charisma to take the country out of the woods.

Adeyeye said this while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after the inauguration of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Support Group in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

He said though the APC came on the mantra of change to rescue the country from the mismanagement of the PDP, most Nigerians are still not happy with the present situation of things.

“I think that what will determine the direction that Nigerians will go in 2023 will be based on the personality of whoever is contesting. A political party is not going to be the issue.

“In 2023, Nigerians will tell you they don’t care about the APC, they don’t care about the PDP, because they have seen the two parties, so they will like to look at the person who can help rescue the nation from the challenges it has found itself,” the former minister said.

He said in the face of myriads of security and other challenges confronting the nation, Nigeria needs a focused and courageous leader to galvanize the country and take it away from the path of disintegration.

“We are facing the kind of security challenges we have not faced before. Today, there is the problem of insecurity. The economy is not doing well as we expected. Therefore the moment demands a very competent leader, an astute politician, and a man of wisdom and experience, who is bold and ready to tackle headlong the various challenges facing the country,” Adeyeye said.
