The member representing Nnewi North constituency and a governorship aspirant under the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Honourable Nonso Smart Okafor has expressed confidence that his chances at the primary election, coming up in a few months’ time, are high because power comes from God.
Okafor while addressing executive members of Nnewi North and zonal members of APGA during his declaration to run for the governorship position in the state expressed gratitude to his constituents for giving him the opportunity to represent them at the 7th assembly.
Our correspondence Ifeanyi Okonkwo who witnessed the event reports that Okafor also thanked his community Ndi-Nnewi for believing in him, adding that he will never let them down.
According to Okafor ‘I have always had the hunger to contribute to Anambra state development and before taking these bold steps, I consulted my God, family, and friends. Am here to ask for your support to become the next Governor of Anambra.
“I am confident because… despite the fact that am always underrated, God has always favoured me. Some people have come out to say am too young to become a Governor but I don’t think soo because our finding fathers who fought for our independence were far more younger than me.”
“I am here not just to inform you but also to consult you and request your support. I call on the delegates who will vote at the primary election to know that their destiny is in their hands.”
“APGA is an identity of Ndi-Igbo,” he went on, “and we should not allow it to die. If APGA dies in Anambra State, the party may go into extension. APGA is our heritage and the only party that reminds us of our finding father Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu.”
“In this race, it will not be easy. We will meet a lot of money bags on the way but we have the conviction that if giving the opportunity, we will do wonderfully well. As a member of the house of assembly, I have had the opportunity to know the state well.
“There has never been any election I won by my own power. it has always been by the grace of God. I believe that power belongs to God and Anambra is in the hands of God.”

Speaking to newsmen in an interview, Okafor added, “The whole idea is not just about being a youth. I am not contesting because I am young. I am contesting because I am prepared for the task. I have been tested in some other positions and I believe I can do this job very well. I am qualified to be the next Governor both academically, age-wise, constitutionally, and intellectually.
“Today, we are in a digital age and we cannot afford to operate analog in a digital age. If you check the ICT and the entertainment industry and other sectors that young people have taken charge of, you will see how massively they are doing in creating an economy.
“It takes young people to build any nation. If elected, I will build a society that will be better not just for the youth but the older generation. I want to build a state that we will be proud of.
On his chances of winning the election, Hon. Nonso Okafor said, “It is God that will decide who will be the next governor. As we are starting this race, many people may not believe us but what is important is the fact that we believe in ourselves and by God’s grace, we will be victorious.”
