Owerri Prison Break: Ikpeazu Imposes Curfew On Umuahia, Aba

Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has imposed curfews on Aba, the commercial nerve of the state and Umuahia, the State capital.

The imposition of the curfew by Ikpeazu on the two major cities of the state, it was gathered, may not be unconnected with the attacks on Imo Correctional Centre and Police Command on Monday by hoodlums.

The curfew, according to a statement by Commissioner for Information, Mr. John Okiyi-Kalu, starts between 10pm and 6am from Monday, 5th April 2021 till further notice.

He said: “This is sequel to security reports received from multiple sources, and informed by the need to continue to protect innocent citizens and residents of the state.

“Security agencies in the state have been directed to ensure strict enforcement and compliance with the directive.

“Only those on essential services with proper identification are exempted from the curfew.

“All law-abiding citizens are advised to go about their normal duties, outside the curfew period, without fear of molestation as the security architecture of the state is robust enough to guarantee their safety.”

Meanwhile, Biafra Nations League, BNL has asked the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma to resign immediately following the attacks on the state police headquarters and the correctional centre.

The group said that the Governor found himself in the current situation after he invited the military to attack members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Eastern Security Network, ESN.

Princewill Chimezie Richard, National Leader of the BNL made the claim while addressing newsmen in Owerri, the capital of Imo State on Monday.

According to him, many prisoners languishing in the correctional centres are innocent of the offences they were accused of.

He accused the police of congesting the correctional Centre without charging suspects to court, adding that the group will not condemn the attack.

The group called on the Governor of the State, Hope Uzodinma to, “resign for peace to reign” in the State.

“Uzodinma entered trouble when he invited the military to Orlu to massacre innocent people in the name of searching for IPOB/ESN.”
