Five Days After Losing A Lawmaker, Another House Of Reps Member Dies

The lawmaker representing Lere Federal Constituency in Kaduna State at the House of Representatives, Mr Suleiman Aliyu, is died.

He was aged 53.

Aliyu was said to have died on Tuesday afternoon at the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in Kaduna State.

An aide to the deceased, Tukur Abdul-Azeez, who spoke to reporters on the telephone, said, “Yes, he passed away this morning. He had been suffering from typhoid and fever.”

Aliyu’s death made it the sixth member of the House to have died since the 9th National Assembly was inaugurated on June 11, 2019.

Aliyu’s death occurred five days after the lawmaker representing Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency in Plateau State, Haruna Maitala, died.

Haruna Maitala died at the Federal Medical Centre in Keffi, Nasarawa State, following an auto crash involving his car along the Abuja-Jos

The lawmaker’s media aide, Joseph Adudu, in a statement said, “This is to announce the death of Honourable Haruna Maitala which occurred as a result of fatal car accident on his way to Jos from Abuja.

“Until his death, Haruna Maitala was the member representing Jos North/Bassa federal constituency in the National Assembly.

“He would be buried this (Saturday) morning according to Islamic rites. May God forgive his sins and grants him Aljanna fidau.”

On December 2, 2019, the lawmaker who represented Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency of Niger State in the House, Ja’afaru Iliyasu, died.

The lawmaker representing Garki/Babura Federal Constituency of Jigawa State in the House, Mr Muhammadu Gawo, died on December 31, 2019.

On February 8, 2021, the lawmaker representing Aba-North/South Federal Constituency, Abia State, in the House, Ossy Prestige, died.

On March 4, 2021, another member from Jigawa State, Yuguda Hassan Kila, who was Chairman of the House Committee on Customs and Excise, died from an undisclosed illness at 70.

At the Senate, two members died during the period.

Benjamin Uwajumogu, who represented Imo North Senatorial District at the Senate, died on December 18, 2019.

On June 15, 2020, the lawmaker representing Lagos East Senatorial district, Adebayo Osinowo, aka Pepper, had died at the age of 64.
