Presidency Reveals Why Buhari Was Absent From COAS, Attahiru’s Burial

The Presidency has revealed why President Muhammadu Buhari was absent at at the Funeral Ceremony of Late Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 others in Abuja on Saturday, May 22nd.

Nigerians took to social media on Saturday to berate the President and his vice, Yemi Osinbajo, for failing to attend the burial ceremony of the late COAS and other military officers in Abuja.

In a series of tweet via her Twitter handle on Monday, Presidential spokesperson, Lauretta Onochie, said Buhari needed at least 48 hours clearance before he would depart Presidential Villa to any event.

She wrote: “For a President to be at any funeral or event outside the Presidential Villa, the event must have at least 48 hours for intelligence operatives to do surveillance and clearance before the President can go based on the Security report.”

“In a case where the COAS and his team died yesterday and had to be buried today, you don’t expect the President to go there where there is no security clearance.”

“The minimum time of 48 hours wasn’t met. In insecurity parlance, funeral ceremonies are where politically exposed persons face more risks.”

However, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has accused Senate President Ahmed Lawan and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, of been against the restructuring of Nigeria.

In a post on his Twitter page on Monday, the IPOB leader accused the duo of trying to stop Nigeria’s restructuring, urging the south to break out of the country.

Nnamdi Kanu said: “The South have been demanding RESTRUCTURING. Now, Southern Govs & Southern caucus in NASS have joined in. That’s half of Nigeria. But 2 men – the Senate President and AGF Malami are saying the North won’t entertain it.

“Dear South: Just walk away from Nigeria. Simple!, They [the North] have no sea but they are in charge of all sea ports in the South.

“They have no single drop of oil but own all oil wells in the South and are in charge of NNPC. They score lowest in every exam yet they are Chief Justices, AGF, Supreme Court Judges and Army Generals,” he added.
