The issue of inclusiveness has been a heated subject since the inception of Buhari’s administration. Appointments after appointments have seen Igbos, most especially from the South East overlooked. Asked why he seems to overlook Igbos in his appointments during the interview with Arise TV in June, Buhari didn’t deny this. Rather, he said it was about people who were qualified and whom he trusted.

Here, we decided to count all the people who are qualified and trusted enough to serve in parastatals under Buhari. We know that perception can be deception which is why we decided to investigate this claim. We did it the way we could, by digging out all the names and the agency or parastatals they head.

AboutNigerians.com lists about 150 parastatals in Nigeria. The South East is one out of 6 of Nigeria, now check the list. And maybe do the maths.

Mrs. Chinedum Olisakwe Lawrence

Chinedum Olisakwe Lawrence was reappointed as the director (under corporate services) of Electricity Liability Management (NELMCO) in 2018 with a tenure that will run for four years.

Chief George Moghalu

Chief George Moghalu is of Igbo descent and hails from Nnewi in Anambra state. He has been actively involved in the politics of the country and has been a great leader.

He was appointed by Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retd.) as the managing director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) in2019.

Clement Onyeabo Nze

Clement Onyeabo Nze was appointed as the Director-General of Nigeria Hydrological Services in 2018 which actually took effect from the 28th day of October the same year.

Senator Osita Izunaso

Senator Osita Izunaso is one of the few privileged Igbo politicians appointed by the group government of Muhammadu Buhari as one of the heads of parastatals. He has already served in his capacity of the senator representing Imo West Senatorial zone or district from 2007 to 2011.

Currently, Senator Osita Izunaso is serving as the Chairman of the governing body of the National Automotive Design And Development Council, the NAADC.

Dr. Chinwe Anunobi

She is an Igbo professor and was appointed by the Buhari’s administration as the chief executive director of the National Library which is a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Education. This appointment took place at the beginning of September 2021.

Okechukwu Ukwuoma

Here is another name in the list of few Igbos that are heading different parastatals in Nigeria under the regime of General Muhammadu Buhari. Okechukwu Ukwuoma was appointed and is currently the Director-General National Centre For Technology Management (NACETEM). This is for the second tenure and will be the last after taking effect on the 22nd of July, 2018.

Obinna Francis Ogwuegbu

Also one of the Igbos in charge of different parastatals in the country, Obinna Francis was appointed Secretary of the Special Investigation Panel for The Recovery of Public Property. This appointment also took effect on the 2nd of November, 2018.

Dr. Emeka Ewelukwa

Under the regime of General Muhammadu Buhari, Dr. Emeka Ewelukwa was privileged to be among the few Igbos that were appointed head of any parastatal within the country.

He was appointed the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET) after the panel in charge of the company was reinstalled after a period of five years or so.

Mr. Francis Ndubuisi Nwosu

During the release of the list of the newly appointed head of parastatals within various ministries in the country under the regime of Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retd.), Mr. Francis Nwosu was appointed the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Press Council which is a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture.

Nnenna Akajemeli

According to a statement released by the Presidency in April 2017, Nnenna Akajemeli was appointed the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of Service Compact, SERVICOM for a term of four years. At the end of her tenure in April 2021, Buhari approved her re-appointment.
