Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the main Igbo socio-cultural group, has raised the alarm about the region’s constant attacks and killings by gunmen.

The organization stated that the recent killings in Enugu and those now taking place in Anambra State are giving it nightmares, adding that “enough is enough.”

The group addressed through Mazi Okwu Nnabuike’s Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC.

In the recent week, gunmen have slain dozens of people in the states of Enugu, Imo, and Anambra.

The deaths, however, were condemned by the Ohanaeze Youth leader.

He pondered why the culprits would descend on helpless Nigerians going about their daily lives in Igboland, characterizing it as “an attack too many.”

“We are in excruciating anguish over the past lives that have been squandered at the hands of odd individuals acting under the pretense of unknown gunmen.

“Several people, including security officers, have paid the ultimate price in the last several weeks.
This is very inappropriate and deplorable.

“The Igbo people are regarded to be peaceful, and they are known to value the sanctity of life.
This is why we are still baffled as to the motivation and those responsible for the atrocity.

“Be that as it may, we are calling on the State Governments to rise to the occasion. It does appear that the Federal Government controlled security apparatus are sitting on the fence.

“To this end, the State Governments should step up action with both conventional and unconventional approach to tackle this menace once and for all.

“We have had enough bloodshed in Igbo States and we say that “enough is enough,” he said.

He called on aggrieved youths to come to the negotiating table as “the current approach would not yield the desired results.

“We are ready to midwife any negotiation that would bring about a lasting peace in Igbo land .” Okwu said

He consoled the victims of the gunmen attack at Abia cattle market, Enugu and Anambra States, urging security agencies to carry out in-depth investigations before arriving at a conclusion, adding, “there must be adequate compensation for the victims”.
