The Nigeria Police Force has ordered the immediate adoption of the new wage structure as part of steps to prevent police officers from going on strike.

The issuance of uniforms and other accoutrements to NPF troops was also approved by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba.

Some police officers were said to be plotting a walkout earlier this week over the inability to execute the new police compensation structure, the failure to provide advanced weaponry to fight crime, and the officers’ low general wellbeing.

The rumor had already been rejected by force headquarters, who said that information concerning the alleged strike was false and malicious.

The NPF, on the other hand, appears to be taking no chances, since the IGP is presently taking urgent efforts to put an end to the strike.

A police wireless communication dated March 15, 2022, with the reference number CB: 4001/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/Vol, instructs chiefs of departments and state commissioners of police to educate their officers on why they should not attempt to strike.

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has authorized the immediate computation of compensation under the new salary structure, according to the force headquarters.

“Intelligence reports available to the Inspector General of Police indicate that some members of the rank and file intend to go on strike over non-payment of the new police salary structure, failure to provide sophisticated weapons to fight crime, and poor general welfare of police officers,” according to the signal.

“Note that the Inspector General of Police has directed the immediate computation of salary under the new salary structure, tax relief/exemption for officers and men for immediate implementation, and distribution of kits and other accoutrements, all of which have already been completed with force headquarters.”

Anaedoonline.ng reports that the Force Acting Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, had warned the rank and file that any strike or disruption of law enforcement services would be treated as mutiny.
