Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike has stated that he will not stand down for any of the party’s consensus candidates ahead of the party’s presidential primary.

Only death, according to the Governor, will force him to abandon his desire to become President of Nigeria.

“The only thing that will make me resign is death; if I’m still alive, we’ll complete it on May 28/29 (the PDP presidential primary date).”

“I’ve been a local government chairman, which is the grassroot,” Wike added in pidgin English. “I’ve been a minister, and now I’m a Governor.” How many of the candidates have such background?”

He explained that former vice President Atiku Abubakar has only been a vice president, not a minister or even Governor.

“If they put me and other aspirants side by side, the delegates will choose me, because I have been the one going from State to State telling them to vote for me.

“Why would I step down for anybody? If you want to do consensus, you will do it with equity and fairness.
