LATEST: FG Gives Update On Casualties Of Imo Refinery Fire

So far, 110 dead have been retrieved from the fire at the illicit oil refinery site in Abacheke Kpofire in Egbema town in Imo State, according to the Federal Government.

In an interview with reporters on Monday, Ifeanyi Nnaji, the National Emergency Management Agency’s Head of Operations, confirmed this.

Officials from the agency have discovered additional dead corpses from a popular river near the location of the sad fire occurrence, according to Nnaji, who gave an update on the fire disaster that happened on Friday night.

Other victims died at other hospitals throughout the state, increasing the total fatality to 110, according to the NEMA official.

Nnaji stated that the agency has not ascertained what led to the fire disaster, adding that it will soon come out with a report on the incident.

According to the NEMA official, arrangements were on to carry out a mass burial of the corpses recovered from the fire incident.

He appealed to the government to create the enabling environment for genuine business to flourish within the oil-producing communities in Imo, to discourage youths from engaging in illegal activities.

Nnaji also called on the oil companies in the area to assist the government in job creation for their host communities.
