Turkey has informed allies that it will oppose Sweden and Finland joining NATO.

In a video released on his Twitter account on Thursday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan stated this.

Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Finland and Sweden formally requested to join the US-led NATO on Wednesday.

Erdogan, in an interview with students late on Wednesday, said, “We will continue our policy in a determined way.

“We have told allies that we will say no to Finland and Sweden’s NATO membership.”

The Turkish president claimed that Sweden and Finland were harboring, supporting, and arming “terrorists.”

According to NAN, the president’s statement was a rehash of Ankara’s charge that the nations were backing terrorist groups.

The militant Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and the Syrian Kurdish YPG, which it considers a terrorist organisation linked to the PKK, are among the nations.

“NATO is a security alliance and we cannot accept terrorists to be in it,” Erdogan added.
