Because of prior complaints, Governor Nasir El-rufai might have refused supporters of Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi admission to Kaduna’s Arewa House.

Recall that the Governor El-Rufai was criticized by the Peter Obi Support Network (POSN) for reportedly directing the Arewa House administration to deny the group admission to the venue it had paid for.

According to a news release issued by POSN and signed by its spokesman Sani Altukry, El Rufai reportedly called the manager of Arewa House to inform him that the location for the Peter-Datti Northern Summit was unavailable.

He said: “The summit is not a political campaign of any sort, but a convergence of volunteers, would-be volunteers, and supporters of the Obi-Datti project for necessary interaction and cross-fertilization of ideas.”

The governor’s decision may not be unrelated to Obi’s restriction of El-movement Rufai’s during a governorship contest in Anambra State nearly ten years ago, according to information that has recently come to light.

All is fair in love and war, according to a Kaduna government source who recalled how, in 2013, during the Anambra governorship election, Department of State Services (DSS) agents imprisoned El-Rufai in his hotel room, allegedly on Obi’s orders.

He stated: “The table has turned. Nine years ago, Mallam (El-Rufai) was kept at Finotel in Awka against his will when he arrived Anambra to monitor the election in which the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Dr. Chris Ngige, was contesting.

“So, this time around, we are protecting the place and the organisers against any breakdown of the law. If anything happens to the attendees or the premises, the Kaduna State government would be held responsible. As a responsible Chief Security Officer of the state, the governor decided on that measure. I did not say you should quote me.”
