Anambra State Police Command agents detained Matthew Nwankwo, a suspected kidnapping mastermind who has been on the run for more than seven years, yesterday.

According to information obtained by The Guardian, Nwankwo has been hiding out since his home in Nteje village, Oyi Local Council of the state, was demolished in July 2015.

The homes of two additional suspects, Solomon Chibuzo Morah and Hyacinth Chibuodu, both residents of the nearby Umueri community in the Anambra East council, were reportedly also demolished, according to an eyewitness.

He said the houses of the trio were demolished by former Governor Willie Obiano administration because of their alleged involvement in the kidnapping.
According to the witness, his arrest followed a tip-off to the police that he had sneaked into the village, and is being detained at the headquarters of the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Amawbia.
