In the run-up to the 2023 general elections, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has promised to privatize the country’s refineries if elected President next year.

The PDP candidate stated on Monday during the PDP’s presidential rally in Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, that he will earmark $10 billion from refinery sales to empower young Nigerians’ small and medium-scale businesses.

He identified the refineries to be sold as the Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries, all of which have been idle for years.

While urging the massive Lagos population to vote for the PDP next year, the former Vice President promised that his administration would reconstruct Africa’s most populous nation.

In doing so, he promised to give additional authorities and resources to state and local governments, while also urging citizens to keep their leaders accountable.

The PDP candidate advised Lagos residents against re-electing the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) at both the state and federal levels.
