The Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, claims to have withdrawn voting stations from holy sites, places of worship, mosques, and the residences of prominent politicians as the general elections of 2023 approach.
It stated that the change was made to guarantee electoral integrity.
Festus Okoye, the INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, made this announcement yesterday during a segment of Sunday Politics on Channels Television.

Okoye pleaded with voters to assist the commission in securing free and fair elections during the upcoming elections.
He said, “We removed polling units from the palaces of traditional rulers; we removed polling units that are near the homes of politicians; we removed polling units that are in shrines; we also removed polling units from places we consider not conducive for electoral business.”
