On Wednesday, Babatunde Fashola, the minister of works and housing, said that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOBsit-at-home )’s order had a significant impact on the project’s apparent delay in completion.

Fashola revealed this information while he was a guest on Sunrise Daily on Channels Television.

He said, “These dates keep shifting and people must remember that on the eastern side, our contractors have not been able to work on Mondays for almost two years and that has affected the completion date.”

He claims that even though Saturdays are work days for construction employees, a 52-day loss in productivity cannot be quickly made up for.

The minister went on to say that additional difficulties, such as moving transmission cables that connected the East and West over the Niger River, added to the delay that prevented the bridge from being finished early and within the originally planned deadline.

Speaking about completing the final 4 km of the road in just four months, Mr. Fashola said that because the building was taking place in a wetland, there was a significant requirement for dredging and sand filling, which he stated must not be hastened.
