The presidential election on February 25 would reportedly be the most free in the history of the nation, according to Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State.

APC member Akeredolu made this announcement on Wednesday in Abuja at the International Conference Centre, where Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima received their certificates of return as the next president and vice president, respectively.

Wednesday saw the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission that Bola Tinubu had won the presidential race.

Akeredolu stated that the election represented Nigerians’ will in a statement sent by his chief press secretary, Richard Olatunde.

He noted that aggrieved candidates who are not satisfied with the result of the poll would be met to start the healing process.

He also disclosed the party has sent up a committee saddled with the responsibility of meeting other presidential candidates who are not pleased with the result and emergence of Tinubu.
Akeredolu said, “The President-elect has set up committees to meet with the gentlemen who contested in the election for us to start the healing process. I belong to one of the committees. We are going to meet them and appeal to them so that we can work together.
“This is an election that was not padded. People who voted were counted, that is the way I see it. It’s not one which shows millions of votes. You can see the candidates, everyone won 12 states each, it has never been like that before.”

He further appreciated the residents of the state for their support in the election and commended them for voting for the candidate of the party.

He described the support as attestation and love the people of the state have for his administration.
He said, “Ondo People are progressives and we will always at least be on the side of progressivism. From the onset we are at the forefront of clamour for a Southern President and so we have to put everything we had into it and we got support that is why we are able to make it.”
