There are significant signs that the incoming president, Bola Tinubu, has decided to choose Godswill Akpabio, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, and Jibrin Barau as his vice president and senate president, respectively.

Anaedoonline.ng learned through Daily Trust that reliable sources have confirmed that the president-elect informed Akpabio and Barau of his choice at a meeting that took place in Abuja.

It should be recalled that Tinubu met with Akpabio, Barau, Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti), and Biodun Oyebanji, the governor of Ekiti State, on Tuesday.

In order to promote national harmony, fairness, and religious balance, Barau was reportedly asked by Tinubu to renounce his ambition for the Senate presidency during their meeting on Tuesday, which some sources claimed was called at the request of the president-elect.

The source said “The president-elect told Barau that he is extremely qualified for the job but that he should drop his ambition for the emergence of a Christian to enable his administration to commence on a good footing.

“He said since he (Tinubu) and Senator Kashim Shettima (the vice president-elect) are Muslims, the right thing to do is to support a Christian.

“It was after the pleas that the president-elect told Barau that he would want him to work with Akpabio as deputy Senate president.”

The APC NWC member, who requested anonymity, stated, “I was not present when the meeting took place, but two attendees have informed me of Asiwaju’s decision. It is true that he chose Akpabio and Barau to serve as the Senate president and vice president.

However, when contacted to comment on the issue, yesterday, Akpabio simply said, “I don’t know.” However, Barau could not be reached last night.
