According to reports, at least two Nigerian Police Force policemen were killed early on Saturday in an Imo State town.

According to information acquired by Newsmen, the gunmen arrived in huge numbers and started firing randomly while the dead cops were on duty at a check point at Umudim, which is near to the Okpala junction along the Owerri/Aba route.

Several police officers are alleged to have been slain at the same spot by unidentified gunmen roughly a month earlier.

According to a source cited by Sunday Sun, the gunmen “came this morning in about two vehicles, they sighted the police officers and opened fire on them, two of them died on the spot while another one was shot in his leg.”

The Eastern Security Network (ESN), the security branch of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is suspected to be behind the incident, but the State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed it and claimed the hoodlums fled after being confronted by a police reinforcement team.

The police spokesperson claims that amid a gunfight with the officers, some of the suspects managed to flee with gunshot wounds.

“It is true that some hoodlums suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) shot at our men who were defending the properties of residents of the area,two of the officers died arrestors while another one was shot in the leg recuperating.

“They fled after they observed we have sighted their operational vehicle, some of them were hit with a bullet but escaped with it. We have already launched a manhunt for them in a bid to arrest all those involved”. Okoye said.

Recall that a couple that owns a fast food restaurant was among the three police officers killed in the vicinity (Okpala junction) last month.
