Onyekachukwu Ike, a member-elect for the Nnewi North constituency, was the target of an attempted abduction by four armed men who were thought to be DSS agents on Thursday in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
After attending the final Thanksgiving mass for the seventh Assembly, the armed men invaded the Assembly complex in three vehicles and took the member-elect hostage, according to newsmen.
As they attempted to drive away from the Assembly premises, Onyekachukwu Ike was purportedly being forced into the DSS car before security guards instantly sealed the exit gate.

Esther Aneto, the Acting Clerk of the Assembly, and other senior staff reportedly voiced anger over the DSS agents’ failure to notify them or the Assembly’s Police staff before attempting to remove the lawmaker-elect.
However, a DSS agent said that they obtained a court order authorizing the arrest of Onyekachukwu Ike.
At the Valedictory session of the seventh Assembly, the Deputy Governor, Onyeka Ibezim, who had come to represent the Governor, and the Speaker, Uche Okafor, intervened in the situation and eventually got Ike released.
