The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced the process of replacing Femi Gbajabiamila, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives who was chosen as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Chief of Staff.
According to Daily Trust, Fuad Laguda, the incumbent APC chairman in Surulere Local Government Area, has jumped ahead of other candidates in the race to succeed Gbajabiamila.
Laguda will very certainly obtain the party’s approval to run in the by-election for Surulere Federal Constituency 1.

Remember that Gbajabiamila was re-elected to the Green House, but he resigned after Tinubu appointed him.
According to reports, three aspirants have expressed interest in running for the APC in a by-election to be held later this year by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Agboola Dabiri, a former interim Chairman of Surulere Local Government; Hon. Kabir Lawal, widely known as Caesar, a two-term former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly; and Laguda are among them.
However, Laguda emerged as the preferred aspirant during a simulated primary held on Sunday among the party’s top officials in Surulere.
One of the party’s leaders stated to Daily Trust that, while Dabiri is already in Abuja, Lawal had agreed to step down to allow Laguda to emerge.
“We did the mock primary yesterday (Sunday), and Laguda was unanimously nominated as candidate to represent the party. We decided on Laguda because he has the experience as a seasoned politician and also an accomplished public servant,” he said.
However, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the APC’s publicity secretary in the state, stated that the party will still follow proper process in picking a candidate, ensuring that the candidate would be someone devoted to the ideas of progressive politics.
