The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared that its planned countrywide demonstration on August 2 (today) will begin at 7:30 a.m. in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to news reports, the planned protest indicates the labor union’s discontent with the President Bola Tinubu-led government’s negative policies, particularly the withdrawal of fuel subsidies.
Comrade Benson Upah, the NLC’s Head of Information, informed journalists that workers and civil society organizations will gather at the Unity Fountain in Abuja to begin the demonstration, while state chapters would do the same.

Upah stated that the NLC’s associate unions have mobilized its members and are ready to demonstrate through their state branches.
He added that appropriate security services have been contacted and are expected to ensure security for Nigerians throughout the protest, and that the international community is watching to see how the federal government truly treats its citizens.
“We have consolidated on our arrangement, and the fillers we are getting is that Nigerians are ready to be on the street to express their feelings and outrage over the harsh economic situation in the country,” Upah submitted.
However, the NLC took to its Twitter handle on Tuesday to reiterate its readiness for the street action, saying, “Tomorrow End, Nationwide our voice must be heard.
