In a shocking incident that took place on September 8, 2023, in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, a female resident named Mistura Olasinde and her two daughters, Hauwa and Fatima, were abducted in the Starwood Estate, Galadimawa. This heart-wrenching story unfolds the details of their abduction, the desperate search efforts, and the distressing negotiations with the kidnappers.

Mistura Olasinde and her daughters were traveling in their Toyota Highlander from Garki to their home in Starwood Estate when the abduction occurred around 7 pm. The incident took place near Kabusa Garden Estate, where the road conditions were poor. Kidnappers emerged from the nearby bushes, brandishing firearms and firing shots to intimidate bystanders before forcibly taking the family into the wilderness.

Upon learning of the abduction, residents swiftly contacted the Galadimawa Divisional Police Officer, Jerry Cole, who led a team of police officers and vigilantes in a search operation. Despite their relentless efforts, the search, which extended into the Kuje forest, yielded no results.

The Ransom Demand:

Mistura’s husband, Surajudeen Olasinde, who works for the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority, revealed that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of ₦100 million initially. However, this amount was later reduced to ₦50 million, then ₦10 million, and finally, they inquired about the family’s available funds.

Facing the kidnappers’ threats to harm or kill his family, Mr. Olasinde and his family resorted to begging and pleading. They informed the kidnappers that they could not afford a large ransom and mentioned that their Toyota Highlander had been sold to raise money for the ransom. Ultimately, they managed to gather ₦2.84 million.

Payment of Ransom:

The kidnappers instructed Mr. Olasinde and his brother-in-law to deliver the ransom around 8 pm on Saturday. They were directed to an undisclosed location, where they handed over the money to secure the release of Mistura and her daughters. After an anxious 40-minute wait, the family was reunited, and an Okada rider (commercial motorcyclist) was employed to take them home.

Mistura Olasinde and her daughters, who had endured both physical injuries and psychological trauma, were promptly taken to a hospital for medical care. The family, along with the residents of Starwood Estate, called upon President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, to enhance security in the area.

The Chairman of Residents of Starwood Estate, Kayode Adedoyin, highlighted several kidnapping incidents in the region and urged Minister Wike to take measures to ensure the safety of the residents.

Police Response:

While the Galadimawa Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Cole, refrained from commenting on the case, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that the command had not been officially briefed about the incident but promised to provide an update once informed.
