Progress Made in Clearing Passport Backlog, Says Nigerian Interior Minister

Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, has provided an update on the efforts to clear the backlog of passport applications in the country. According to him, significant progress has been made in addressing the issue.

Tunji-Ojo revealed that out of the 200,000 passport applications backlog, approximately 55,000 have already been cleared. He further assured Nigerians that more applications would be processed before the end of the two-week deadline given to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

The minister expressed his commitment to improving passport issuance services, emphasizing that Nigerians should not be denied their right to obtain passports. He believes that it is crucial to ensure efficiency in the passport issuance process, and he is closely monitoring the progress being made.

Tunji-Ojo’s goal is to provide Nigerians with a more streamlined passport application experience. Once the backlog is fully cleared, applicants can expect to receive their passports within a reasonable timeframe of just two weeks from the date of application.
