The staff of the Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company (AUMTCO) have taken to the streets to protest the removal of their Managing Director, Najeeb Abdulsalam. This upheaval follows the directive issued by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday night, September 27, which led to the removal of several heads of FCT agencies and parastatals, including Abdulsalam.

Videos captured on Thursday, September 29, depict heart-wrenching scenes as AUMTCO workers openly wept and expressed their discontent over the abrupt decision to remove Abdulsalam from his position. The tearful protesters gathered around the ousted Managing Director, passionately chanting, “We want you back!”

One concerned protester, sharing a video on social media platform X (Twitter), conveyed a strong message to #GovWike, highlighting that Abdulsalam had been in office for just three months but had already achieved remarkable results that surpassed the expectations of any past Managing Director. The plea resonates with the sentiment that letting him go would be a significant loss not only for him but also for the entire AUMTCO staff.

The protest underscores the impact that Abdulsalam’s leadership had on the company and its employees during his brief tenure. It remains to be seen how this public demonstration of support will influence the ongoing developments surrounding his removal.
