In a quiet neighborhood along Atiku Abubakar Road in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, a horrifying incident unfolded on the night of October 1, 2023, sending shockwaves through the community. A young man found himself at the mercy of an angry mob, accused of attempting to steal a generator from a new-generation church.

The shocking events of that fateful night were recounted by a witness, Amb Dignity Usenekong, who provided a chilling narrative of the incident. According to him, the suspect was apprehended by vigilant members of the community after allegedly switching off the generator that illuminated the premises of the church.

“Burning in this picture is a young man who chose to sacrifice himself today,” Amb Dignity Usenekong began his account. “I mean, it’s a thief who was caught today, 1st October 2023, while attempting to steal a generator in a new generation church in my neighborhood, Atiku Abubakar Avenue after putting off the generator that was on.”

The situation escalated rapidly as a furious mob descended upon the young man. They wielded machetes, raining down brutal blows and pelting him with stones. In the end, their anger reached a horrifying climax as they dragged him out onto the tarred road and set him ablaze.
