The Nigerian Navy’s Beecroft patrol team has intercepted and foiled an illegal oil bunkering activity in the Igboelejo community area of Lagos State. The operation resulted in the arrest of a large boat suspected of being involved in illegal bunkering, carrying a cargo of 205 drums of a substance believed to be Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and other related products.
The navy reported that upon receiving intelligence on October 5, 2023, through the Falcon Eye Alignment, their patrol team under the command of NNS Beecroft’s Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga responded promptly. They discovered a sizable blue fiber boat, which was strongly suspected of being engaged in illegal bunkering. The vessel was laden with 205 drums of the suspicious substance. Regrettably, the perpetrators of the illegal activity abandoned the boat and fled as soon as they spotted the navy’s patrol team approaching.
The NNS Beecroft patrol team acted swiftly and skillfully, securing the vessel and transporting it back to their base. An ongoing investigation is being conducted to determine the appropriate measures for handling the incident.
