The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is set to undergo significant development as the Minister of FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike, announced ambitious plans for the construction of 30 kilometers of roads across the six Area Councils. This extensive infrastructure project aims to decentralize development efforts and bring progress to rural communities within the FCT.
Minister Wike made this announcement during a meeting with Sen. Philip Aduda and Mr. Zakari Dobi in his office in Abuja. Sen. Aduda, who served as the immediate past Senator representing the FCT in the 9th Assembly, and Mr. Dobi, who contested under the All Progressives Congress in the last elections, came together to discuss the development of the FCT.
The Minister stated that the 30 kilometers of roads, with five kilometers allocated to each of the six Area Councils, will be completed before May 29, 2024. This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s “renewed hope agenda” to ensure that rural communities are not left behind in the development efforts of the current administration.
Minister Wike commended the visitors for their collaborative efforts, regardless of their political party affiliations, emphasizing the importance of unity in working for the development of the FCT. He pledged to regularly consult with them to harness their contributions to the city’s progress and assured that the FCT Administration is open to collaboration with anyone willing to contribute positively.
Additionally, the Minister explained that the establishment of the Civil Service Commission for the FCT and its withdrawal from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) are all part of the renewed hope agenda. These measures are intended to create opportunities for career advancement and encourage development within the capital city.
Sen. Aduda expressed that their visit aimed to congratulate Minister Wike on his appointment and commend him for the commendable work he has been doing. He also thanked President Tinubu for appointing a native of the FCT as a Minister and pledged their full support for the FCT’s development, working in the interest of all residents.
