Because of his suspected involvement in the Sunday night arson attack on the assembly, the majority leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Edison Ehie, was dismissed.

Strongly backing Governor Similanayi Fubara, Ehie was reported to have thwarted the first attempt to bring the governor up for impeachment.

Speaker Martins Amaehwule announced the majority leader’s expulsion during a sitting on Monday morning. He cited Ehie’s nonattendance at the assembly sitting and his suspected involvement in the assembly’s arson attack as the reasons for his removal.

But on Monday morning, as tear gas was shot outside the Assembly Complex, Governor Siminalayi Fubara rushed the building. House members fled for their lives.
